South Philly Mural is Reborn: Introducing “Autumn 2: The Reckoning”

It’s been almost one year since the hallowed “Autumn” mural at 9th and Bainbridge was cast into eternal darkness by new construction. Fortunately for its past admirers who fought doggedly to preserve the mural, artist David Guinn has been able to reprise his work at Fleisher Art Memorial on Catharine Street.

Guinn put the finishing touches on “Autumn 2: The Reckoning” (our name) a few days ago, and while it still carries that heady, autumnal theme we were all inordinately excited over, it is not an exact recreation of  ”Autumn O.G.” (again, our name). This time around Guinn strayed away from his original pixelated style, opting instead for a more traditional brushwork.

Although nothing can live up to the legacy of “Autumn O.G.”–I actually heard that if you stared at it long enough, your soul would be imbued with mystical powers of the ancients–Guinn’s new mural looks pretty and it makes for a happy ending the dreaded Mural Wars of 2012.
